As many of you know, we recently moved. This weekend was our first weekend in our new house, and although it’s super exciting, it’s also been really stressful. Getting everything connected (TV, internet, etc.), putting together furniture, unpacking a billion boxes, and the list continues. We’re so excited to be in our new house, and exploring this new city (although we haven’t had much time yet, and the weather hasn’t exactly been cooperative the past few days) but it’s also very overwhelming. And, that’s where domestic discipline comes into play.

The last time we did a major move was three years ago when we moved across the country (from Utah to North Carolina) and it resulted in several “rule breaks” probably because, for whatever reason, when I get overly stressed I tend to forget the rules. So, this time, I was bound and determined for that not to happen. I’ve been telling Clint for weeks now that my goal is to not get spanked (punishment spankings, not stress relief/maintenance) once the entire time we live in this house (which will probably be 2-3 years). It’s a huge goal, and an impossible one if you ask Clint, but I’m determined. Unlike the one year no spanking challenge, I’m not seeking rewards (although babe, if you’re reading this, of course I wouldn’t turn down rewards!) but this is more about proving to myself that I can do this.
I started “practicing” for a few weeks leading up to the big move in weekend (which was this weekend) because I knew the stress of moving was really going to make this a challenge. So, I started paying a lot more attention to my behavior, what I say (thinking before I speak) and making minor steps on my “just say okay” initiative. Y’all, seriously, it’s harder than it sounds, but I’m determined.
Yesterday Clint and I were unpacking the kitchen and we came across our rule list that we scribbled down on a piece of scratch paper (to later turn into a formalized rule list for our domestic discipline binder) and I thought perfect. This would be an awesome time to review the rules. Honestly, the rule list is more detailed than I remembered (I typically just remember “the 4 D’s”) but it was a good refresher/reminder of thinking before I act, and speak.
We’re now day 3 into this seemingly impossible challenge, but I’m determined to make it work. But, if it doesn’t, my back-up plan is to just conveniently “lose” the box that the implements are packed in.
On a side note, we’re appreciative of the patience y’all have shown throughout this move. We know that this has meant posts have went up like way later in the day than they usually do, we’re like weeks behind on emails and comments, and some summer projects are still in completion. We’re thankful for the patience, and support, throughout this challenge in our lives, and we’re looking forward to getting back to normal (or, maybe better than normal? ) in the upcoming days.
