Thank you Autumn! It is popular, especially in villages. Our parents are in such marriages so it came naturally to us.

I'm not sure if "over the knee" is something Americans or Europeans came up with. Is it carried out that way in Palestine? Is it called spanking there?

"Over the knee" as you say it is seen as childish but it can be used. We don't have a specific word for spanking, it's just called discipline/punishment or hitting the bottom if you want to be specific.
