Welcome to October, and welcome to another Learning Domestic Discipline Couples Challenge! We’ve made rules, we’ve focused on the great qualities in both ourselves and our partners, and we’ve made plans to improve certain aspects of our relationships with these challenges. We’ve even thrown in a confession or two, which isn’t easy to do. It’s time to throw a little fun into the mix. ... aneity.png

Spontaneously get your partner a gift to show them how much you love and appreciate them. Even a small gift can make your partner extremely happy, and when gifts come as a surprise, they mean so much more. Whether it’s a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates, movie/show/game tickets, or something else your partner has always wanted, a random gift from the heart will remind you both how much you love one another.

* A while ago, I (Clint) got my wife a gift certificate to the spa. I admit it was partially due to her terrific behavior over a period of time, but it was the randomness of the gift that meant the most to her. That little gift certificate made her SO happy. Not only did it make her happy in the moment I gave it to her, but it made her happy when she was able to go to the spa and get a massage without a worry in the world. She deserved it, and the gift caught her completely off guard, which is what made it so meaningful.

Couples often get caught up in their daily responsibilities and things tend to become “routine” in their relationship over time. Being spontaneous like this can rekindle the flame that brought you two together in the first place, and can bring a moment of excitement from the daily monotony of life, even if only for a short while. It’ll feel good to you both to put a smile on your partner’s face with a random gift.

A word of caution – don’t spend too much and get your partner upset about the money spent. That’s not how this challenge is intended to work. Even a homemade card made of paper and crayons can mean the world to your partner. This spontaneous gift can be anything, and sometimes gifts that cost the least mean the most.
